Does the statement of Ibn Sirin concerning the deceased disbeliever who is seen in the best of conditions apply to my father, who only prayed Jumu'ah and most prayers during Ramadan, and who appears in dreams good, beautiful, and bringing good tidings, asking for more supplication, despite knowing that he was being punished for abandoning prayer? And is the inheritance he left permissible or forbidden?

If a Muslim abandons prayer out of denial of its obligation, he is an apostate by consensus. However, if he abandons it out of laziness while still believing in its obligation, most jurists consider him a transgressor (fasiq) and not an apostate. Consequently, he is treated like other Muslim transgressors: he is shrouded, prayed over, inherits, and can be inherited from, especially if he prays sometimes and abandons it at other times. Visions do not form a basis for legal rulings, and one should frequently supplicate and seek forgiveness for him.
