Is it permissible for a woman to undergo surgery to remove flesh growths that prevent conception and cause menstrual cycle disturbances, performed by a non-Muslim doctor in Sweden, due to the unavailability of a female doctor or the financial means to travel? And does her husband have the right to prevent her from doing so?

The Islamic Fiqh Academy has determined that the need of a couple for a child is a legitimate purpose that permits artificial insemination, provided that the order of the treating physician is observed: a Muslim woman, then a non-Muslim woman, then a trustworthy Muslim male physician, then a non-Muslim male physician. Seclusion between the treating physician and the patient is not permissible except in the presence of her husband or another woman. It is not permissible for the husband to prevent his wife from undergoing this procedure if she urgently needs it to treat an illness or if her pregnancy depends on it.
