Is asking the jinn and believing their answer about being afflicted by touch (mass) considered disbelief (kufr), or does the matter fall under relative, not absolute, ghayb (unseen)? And is one who deals with jinn considered a soothsayer (kahin)?

Mere speech with jinn, questioning them, and believing them is not considered disbelief (kufr). Nor is their talk about the absolute unseen considered truly unseen, for Abu Hurayrah believed the thieving jinn. However, it is not permissible to go to soothsayers and diviners who seek help from jinn, because they are people of deception and lies. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a diviner and believes what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him)." The ruling on one who goes to a soothsayer or diviner varies according to their situation: 1. One who goes to him and believes him, convinced that he knows the unseen: This is disbelief (kufr) that expels one from the faith. 2. One who goes to him and believes him, while believing that he does not know the unseen (but rather takes information from jinn): Some scholars consider this disbelief (kufr) that expels one from the faith, while others consider it a lesser disbelief (kufr duna kufr) and a major sin. 3. One who goes to him merely to ask a question and does not believe him: This is not disbelief (kufr), but he has committed a major sin, and the reward for his prayers will be withheld for forty days, according to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever goes to a diviner and asks him about something, his prayer will not be accepted for forty nights."

Scholars like Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen have clarified the impermissibility of going to soothsayers and diviners, questioning them, and believing them, emphasizing that believing them regarding knowledge of the unseen is disbelief. However, going to them to expose their true nature to people is permissible.
