Is asking a person who claims to know the unseen with the help of jinn considered polytheism with Allah Almighty?

Asking the jinn and seeking their help is not shirk (polytheism) absolutely. Rather, asking them to examine their state and test the inner nature of their affairs is permissible if the questioner possesses the means to distinguish their truthfulness from their lies, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did with Ibn Sayyad. Listening to news from the jinn without affirming or denying it is also permissible, in order to know what they possess, just as Muslims listen to the People of the Book. However, believing them in everything they report and glorifying whoever asks them is forbidden. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prohibited going to soothsayers, and it was mentioned that whoever goes to a diviner and asks him, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days. Some scholars have permitted seeking their help in lawful matters, while others have prohibited it out of fear of their evil and deception, and this latter opinion is the most preponderant.
