Is refraining from licking one's fingers after eating in front of people considered arrogance, given that the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded it, while it is considered an unacceptable habit in Morocco?

Merely abandoning the licking of fingers after food because it is considered a fault by those present is not arrogance. However, it might be a preference to disregard the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and to prioritize people's customs over it. It is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, out of disinterest. Rather, one should apply it and enjoin others to do so. The Prophet's saying, "Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me," suffices as a punishment for such an act. Abandoning the licking of fingers out of disinterest in the Sunnah is considered a deficiency in religious practice. However, if it is abandoned for no particular reason, there is no sin upon the one who abandons it, as it is not obligatory but rather one of the Sunnahs and etiquettes of eating. It has been reported in the Sunnah that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to lick his three fingers after food and commanded others to do so, because one does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies.
