Is it permissible to request a divorce from a husband who has not provided for his children for seven years, especially when the wife dislikes him and wishes not to return to him, and the children agree to the separation?

One of the greatest objectives of Islamic law is the perpetuation of affection and harmony between spouses, especially if there are children. Therefore, an attempt should be made to reconcile between you, and to involve people of goodwill and wisdom as intermediaries. If the cause of the dispute is the husband's failure to provide financial support, this can be remedied through advice and patience, reminding him that Islamic law obligates him to provide support, and that neglecting it is a sin, for "It is sufficient sin for a person to neglect those whom he is responsible to support." If he does not respond, the matter can be taken to a judge to compel him to provide support or to grant you a divorce from him.
