Does repeated divorce uttered by the husband while in a state of extreme anger count, knowing that he has pronounced divorce dozens of times over four years? Is the wife, in this case, considered a legitimate wife, or is she committing adultery? Does divorce count if the anger does not reach the point of unconsciousness?

Being lenient with divorce and the husband's mockery of Allah's rulings is a serious matter and indicates the prohibition of ridiculing Allah's verses. A divorce issued by the husband is binding if the wife is under his marital bond, even if he is joking. However, if she is not under his marital bond, the divorce is not effective. The divorce of an angry person is binding if he is aware of what he is saying. If the husband divorces his wife three times while being aware of what he he is saying, she becomes irrevocably divorced from him (baynunah kubra), and she is not lawful for him until she marries another husband. Their cohabitation is forbidden. The spouses must separate immediately. It is not permissible for the spouses to exchange insults or harm each other. It is not permissible for the wife to allow anyone whom her husband dislikes into their home without his permission. The husband must consult trustworthy scholars to understand the details of what he has uttered.
