Light beating of a disobedient wife is permissible if admonition and preaching do not work. As for a husband saying to his wife, "If I hit you, you are divorced by three," and then hitting her, this results in the occurrence of a triple divorce according to the majority of scholars, and this is the most correct view. This differs from Ibn Taymiyyah, who holds that divorce does not occur if the husband intended to threaten, not to divorce.
