What is deprivation, and what is the meaning of "do not kill therein, nor cause corruption"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The term "Al-Haramayn" refers to the Sacred Precinct of Makkah and the Sacred Precinct of Madinah. The meaning of them being sacred precincts (haram) is that fighting is forbidden within them, except in self-defense against an aggressor. Fighting was permitted for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in Makkah for an hour during the day of the Conquest, after which the sanctity returned. It is forbidden within them to hunt or disturb game, and to cut trees or plants, except for what has been exempted. Whoever does so incurs a penalty. Worship in them holds a special virtue and multiplied reward, just as sin committed within them incurs a multiplied sin.
