What is the expiation and punishment for threatening with "I will break your bones" in a moment of anger, knowing that a lawsuit was filed and the plaintiff apologized, saying: "I forgive you, but I am doing this to pressure you and get you out of the housing"?

Allah Almighty commanded the selection of the best words to eliminate the animosity stirred by Satan among people, as He says: "And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan incites [discord] among them."

Good speech calls for every beautiful character and righteous deed. Satan strives among people with that which corrupts their religion and worldly life, and the cure for this is not to obey him in ill-spoken words and to be gentle among themselves.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, established a rule: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent."

The phrase "I will break your bones" and similar expressions are not good; they combine frightening a Muslim and corrupting relations. The expiation for such a statement is through seeking forgiveness, repentance, and following a bad deed with a good one.

Part of repentance is seeking forgiveness from the wronged person, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever has wronged his brother concerning his honor or anything else, let him seek his forgiveness today."

Among the most important good deeds is reconciling disputes, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not inform you of something better than the degree of fasting, prayer, and charity? ... Reconciling disputes; for indeed, the corruption of relations is the shaver [destroyer]."

Surrendering to anger causes people to violate the prophetic guidance and fall into error. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised against anger.
