The question

How should the remaining three days of Ramadan 2007 be made up? Is expiation (kaffarah) required for them, and if so, how much is it, and to whom should it be paid? Can it be given to a charitable organization or sent to the questioner's family in her home country?

The answer

The month that the questioner did not fast out of fear for herself, she must make up for it, according to the majority of scholars, without expiation (fidyah). As for the three days she is unsure about the obligation to make up, some scholars are of the view that she is not required to make them up. However, it is more cautious to make them up to absolve oneself with certainty. She is not required to pay expiation along with making up the fasts in either case, as long as the delay in making them up was due to an excuse.
