What is the ruling regarding parents who pressure their son to divorce his righteous wife, whom he loves, because she is barren, even though he is content with his situation, which makes him irritable and causes him to threaten her with divorce due to his parents' pressure?

The husband is not obligated to obey his family in divorcing his righteous wife, especially if the purpose of the divorce is procreation. However, it is recommended for him to marry a fertile woman to seek offspring, while keeping the first wife if he can deal justly between them. There is great reward in the husband retaining his wife who does not conceive. If he cannot combine them, there is no harm in divorcing the one who does not bear children to seek offspring and please the family. The husband must treat his wife kindly and not diminish her rights, and the wife must be patient and content with Allah's decree.
