Does triple divorce take effect if a man utters it while in a state of extreme anger, when he does not intend it, and wishes to reconcile with his wife?

If the anger reaches a level that completely removes the intellect, so that the speaker does not know what he is saying, then the divorce does not take effect. However, if he utters the divorce while being aware of what he is saying, then his divorce is effective. The fatwa issued is that a triple divorce takes effect, and the wife becomes irrevocably divorced (baynunah kubra), and she is not lawful for him until she marries someone else and he consummates the marriage with her, and then he divorces her or dies. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars. However, some scholars, such as Ibn Taymiyyah, are of the view that divorce during menstruation is not effective, that uttering divorce three times counts as one divorce, and that the divorce of an angry person, if his anger is severe, is not effective even if his intellect is not completely removed. It is advisable to present the issue to trustworthy scholars.
