Is a wife sinful if she refuses intercourse and procreation, and is a husband sinful if he resorts to masturbation out of need?

A wife must fulfill her husband's desire for intimacy, unless there is a legitimate شرعي excuse, based on the hadith: "If a man invites his wife to his bed and she refuses to come, and he spends the night angry with her, the angels will curse her until morning."

It is not permissible for her to refuse to have children without a legitimate شرعي reason, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Marry and multiply, for I will boast of your numbers before the nations on the Day of Resurrection."

The resolutions of the Islamic Fiqh Academy and the Council of Senior Scholars confirm that birth control is absolutely impermissible, though delaying pregnancy is permissible for specific circumstances.

A husband is permitted to enjoy his wife without intercourse during menstruation and postpartum bleeding, but masturbation is not permissible.
