Is the intended meaning of the word "idribuhunna" in verse 34 of Surat An-Nisa (chapter 4 of the Quran) abandonment, estrangement, and ignoring, based on tracing the meanings of the word in the Quran and the Arabic language, rather than the commonly understood physical beating? And are current interpretations merely opinions of exegetes, and not necessarily the true meaning?

This statement indicates a corrupt belief and profound ignorance. Speaking about the Book of Allah without knowledge and rejecting the statements of the exegetes (scholars of Tafsir), who are the people of knowledge regarding the Qur'an and Sunnah, contravenes the guidance of the Salaf and opens the door to misguidance. This is also indicated by the Hadith of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Until, when no scholar remains, people will take ignorant leaders, who, when questioned, will issue fatwas (religious rulings) without knowledge, thus going astray themselves and leading others astray."

The ignorant person claims that the meanings of texts are buried treasures and deduces their meaning based on what seems apparent to him, contradicting the Sunnah and what the people of knowledge adhere to. His assertion that "darb" (striking) in the verse: (وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ) "and strike them" means separation and abandonment, contradicts the Quranic texts and the Prophetic Sunnah, which have interpreted "darb" in this context as non-violent discipline. The meaning of "darb" is well-known in the Qur'an and Sunnah, as in His (Allah's) saying: (اضْرِبْ بِعَصَاكَ الْحَجَرَ) "Strike the rock with your staff," and (اضْرِبْ بِهِ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ) "Strike with it and do not break your oath," and as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: (فَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ ضَرْبًا غير مُبَرِّحٍ) "So strike them with a non-violent striking."

His denial of the true meaning of unseen matters in the Qur'an and his claim that they are merely symbolic is a doctrine of distorting words from their proper contexts, which is what hypocrites and innovators, such as the Qaramita and the Batiniyya, who are disbelievers, do.

Allah and His Messenger have commanded kindness towards wives, and striking in the verse is a means of disciplining a disobedient wife, not an act of humiliation or harm. This prevents evil and discord, contrary to what this ignorant person claims about liberty and civilization, which have led to widespread corruption.
