What is the ruling of Islam on those who claim to control jinn?

Scholars have stated that the jinn derive enjoyment from humans through humans worshipping them, and humans derive enjoyment from the jinn through the jinn fulfilling humans' needs. Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned the states of humans with jinn: whoever commands the jinn with what Allah has commanded is among the awliya' (friends) of Allah; whoever uses the jinn for permissible matters is allowed, provided the means are permissible; and whoever uses them for forbidden matters is disobedient or a disbeliever.

If someone claims to have subjugated the jinn, they are either a liar or truthful, and their use is examined: 1. If they use them in obedience, such as for dawah (inviting to Islam), it is commendable. 2. If they use them for permissible matters, it is allowed, provided the means are permissible. 3. If they use them for forbidden matters, it is forbidden.

Most of those who claim to subjugate the jinn are charlatans who use magic and sorcery and seek to extort money. One must be wary of them and report them to those who can prevent their evil.
