Is it permissible to prevent procreation from a Christian wife due to disagreement on raising the child as a Muslim?
It is not advisable to prevent procreation with a Christian wife for two reasons:
1. Abundant progeny is religiously encouraged, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Marry the affectionate, fertile woman, for I will boast of your numbers before the nations on the Day of Resurrection."
2. The wife's persistence in disbelief is uncertain; she might embrace Islam later, and the husband would then regret not having children.
The husband must raise the children according to religion and good morals, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones﴾ and as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Each of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock."
