A servant's closeness to his Lord is proportional to his obedience. Good deeds increase faith, while sins diminish it. Allah has promised forgiveness and mercy to the believers. The believer ascends through the ranks of religion: Islam, Iman (faith), and Ihsan (excellence), with Ihsan being the highest rank.
