Is a person who refuses to give money to his father sinful, and instead suggests that he sell some of his property or ask his older brother for help, knowing that the person is suffering from financial hardship and accumulating debts, wishes to marry, and fears falling into zina?

The financially able children, male and female, are obligated to provide for their poor father. This expense is distributed among them according to the financial capacity of each.

However, if the father is not poor, the majority of scholars hold that he has no right to his child's money without the child's consent. Conversely, the Hanbalis maintain the permissibility for a father to take from his child's money, even if he is not in need, provided that he does not cause hardship to his child's finances and does not take it to give to another child.

Therefore, there is no sin in refraining from giving the father money if he is not poor and the child is in need. Nevertheless, one must be gentle with him, show him dutifulness, and treat him kindly, for the pleasure of the Lord lies in the pleasure of the father.
