Is it permissible for a non-Muslim to eat with us from the same plate?

There is no harm in eating with a non-Muslim, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate with a Jew. Sheikh Ibn Baz holds that it is permissible if it is for the purpose of inviting them to Allah or for other legitimate reasons. Furthermore, eating with disbelievers, sitting with them, and dealing with them does not expel one from the Islamic faith. Rather, showing kindness and benevolence to them is permissible as long as they have not fought Muslims in religion and are not at war with them, based on Allah's saying: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly." It must be known that residing in non-Muslim lands is not permissible except for one who can establish the rituals of his religion and is safe from temptation, or is compelled to do so; otherwise, emigration becomes obligatory upon him.
