The answer

It is a husband's right to travel wherever he wishes, but he should not be absent from his wife for more than six months without an excuse. A husband is not obliged to inform his wife of his travel destination, but it is part of good companionship not to conceal this from her without an excuse. The foundation of the marital relationship is mutual compassion, understanding, overlooking faults, and considering the other's circumstances. A wife must obey her husband in what is good and lawful, and a husband must treat his wife well and gently. A man's guardianship means looking after religious and worldly interests and necessitates mercy and kindness, not domination and tyranny. And His, the Almighty's, saying: {And men have a degree over them} (2:228) is an indication to urge men towards good companionship and to be generous with women in wealth and character.
