Does a triple divorce, issued on separate occasions, take effect, given that the couple was not praying at the time the divorces occurred, and that some of the pronouncements were intended as a threat, while others were in response to a challenge from the wife or out of fear of scandal?

Abandoning prayer does not prevent a divorce from occurring. The majority of jurists hold that a divorce conditional upon an event takes place when that event occurs, and that a divorce pronounced by a husband who is aware and acting of his own free will is considered a valid divorce. Accordingly, the wife would have been divorced three times and her marital bond severed with a major, irreversible separation (baynunah kubra), unless the conditional divorce upon being informed did not specify a particular time. It is advisable to present such matters to a Sharia court.
