What is the ruling of the Shari'ah concerning a man who returned from a journey during the day in Ramadan while he was not fasting, and he then caused his fasting wife to break her fast and subsequently had intercourse with her?

The man erred in commanding his wife to break her fast and in assisting her in it, and she erred in obeying him. Both of them must repent to Allah. The husband is only required to make up for the day because he broke his fast for travel, and according to many scholars, he is not obligated to refrain from eating for the rest of the day. As for the wife, she must make up for that day, and there is no expiation (kaffarah) upon her.
