The 'awrah (intimate parts) of a Muslim woman in front of another Muslim woman is the area between the navel and the knee. It is unlawful to look at or touch this area except out of necessity, which is determined by its extent, such as for treatment or childbirth. Anything beyond that, she is not permitted to uncover or expose. If there is a need for a nurse to view the site of a wound or childbirth, and this is at the doctor's instruction for the benefit of treatment, then there is no objection to that, and it should be limited to the extent of the need. In the event that a woman, after being discharged from the hospital, needs assistance with certain matters that require the uncovering of her 'awrah between the navel and the knee, if her husband is present and able to perform this, then it is not permissible to uncover her 'awrah to anyone, not even her mother. The ruling on a mother looking at her daughter's 'awrah without a shari'ah-approved justification is the same as for any other woman, which is impermissibility.
