The question

How is Zakat on money paid in the household goods trade, when parts of an inherited land were sold on two different dates and for amounts exceeding the Nisab, and their prices were mixed with trade, household, and agricultural expenses, knowing that a portion of the money was temporarily allocated for marriage, and the market price of the goods is unstable?

The answer

If the wealth reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) and a hawl (full lunar year) passes over it, its zakat becomes obligatory. Wealth acquired during the hawl that is not from the growth of the initial wealth is subject to a new hawl according to the majority of scholars. However, the Hanafis include it with the principal wealth. The questioner must determine the date each amount reached the nisab, and its zakat becomes due after one Hijri year. The easier approach is to make the hawl of the first wealth the hawl for the zakat of all wealth. It is permissible to pay zakat in advance before the hawl is due. Zakat is a right that becomes an obligation on one's conscience and is not waived by the passage of time. It must be paid for past years by anyone who has delayed.
