Divorce pronounced three times counts as three divorces, and it is an irrevocable major divorce (talaq bain baynunah kubra) in which reconciliation is not permissible unless the wife marries another husband. The husband's statement to his wife, "You are unlawful to me as my mother's back," is considered ẓihār, but it is not effective if the wife is already irrevocably divorced, because she has become a stranger. Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce or ẓihār unless the person is unconscious.
