Is it permissible to take out an interest-bearing loan to buy a home, either due to the urgent need for marriage, or to secure housing for one's wife and children instead of employer-provided housing?

Borrowing with interest (riba) is strictly forbidden, even if it is for purchasing a home for dwelling, due to the severe warnings mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Allah (the Most High) says: (O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger). The Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed the one who consumes interest, the one who pays it, its scribe, and its two witnesses, and he said: "They are all equal."

Interest is forbidden for both the borrower and the lender, whether the borrower is poor or rich. Each of them bears a sin, and indeed, they are both cursed. A Muslim is not permitted to borrow from banks or others with interest, as this is considered usury, which is one of the gravest sins. Allah has broadened the doors of lawful earnings for Muslims, such as wages, Mudarabah (profit-sharing), permissible government work, and Zakat and social security for the poor who are unable to work.
