Are the problems and calamities that the questioner faced in his business, such as theft and significant financial loss, a matter of destiny and fate, or could they be related to his daily actions?

Belief in divine decree (Qadaa) and destiny (Qadar) is one of the pillars of faith. Every calamity that befalls a servant is written and ordained by Allah before He creates it, as stated by the Almighty: "No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being."

All calamities are due to the sins of the servant, so repentance and seeking forgiveness are obligatory, as is fulfilling rights such as Zakat, maintaining kinship ties, and providing sustenance. One should also give abundant charity, for it wards off evil, and "acts of kindness protect against evil fates."

Every calamity is an expiation for sins, for "no calamity befalls a believer, not even a thorn prick, but Allah removes some of his sins with it or expiates some of his sins with it."

Perhaps the calamity is due to the evil eye, in which case one must observe the morning and evening supplications, engage in abundant prayer (du'a), and perform ruqyah (Islamic exorcism).
