The question

What should the wife do if she regrets guaranteeing her husband for an interest-based loan to buy an apartment, and a dispute arose between them because of that, with the impossibility of selling the apartment and the difficulty of obtaining Islamic financing due to bank conditions, which negatively affected their livelihood and sustenance, and she wishes to repent and attain Allah's pleasure?

The answer

The wife is obligated to repent from helping her husband with the usurious loan and to advise him to repent from it. Repentance involves regretting the sin, ceasing from it, and resolving not to return to it. Whoever repents from borrowing with usury must repay the borrowed money. If they can avoid repaying the interest, they should not repay it. If accelerating the repayment of the usurious loan drops the interest, they must hasten to do so; otherwise, they are not obligated to accelerate it. The husband is not required to sell the apartment because, after receiving it, the loan enters the possession of the borrower and becomes a debt upon him, and he incurs sin for engaging in usury.
