Is one who severs ties of kinship deprived of the supplication being answered, and if so, must he abandon supplication?

Severing ties of kinship is a major sin and a betrayal on the part of the one who commits it.

It has been reported that the gates of heaven are shut against one who severs ties of kinship, and that his supplication is not answered. However, Sheikh Al-Albani declared this narration to be weak.

The non-acceptance of supplication due to severing ties of kinship includes supplications that involve severing kinship ties themselves, such as a person supplicating evil upon his relatives.

One who severs ties of kinship must repent. However, a Muslim should not abandon supplication even if he has not repented from his sins, for Allah Almighty answered the supplication of Iblis.
