What is the ruling on alarmist media and journalists who spread lies and cause discord, and are their followers sinful? What is their punishment in the Afterlife? And is it obligatory to revolt against them and fight them for their corruption in the land?

Abusive media contribute to doctrinal and moral corruption. Many of their pioneers are accurately described by prophetic hadiths that depict the evil consequences of bad speech, backbiting, and disharmony, as well as the Prophet's (peace be upon him) vision of the liar. Allah Almighty has promised severe punishment to the hypocrites and those who spread rumors, as they are included in the Quranic verses that speak of expelling evil people. Muslims must shun the evils of media and not follow them, because sitting with people of evil is impermissible. Rather, one must denounce evil and show hatred for it. It is not permissible for individuals to punish corruptors; rather, this is the responsibility of those in authority, in order to maintain order and prevent chaos.
