What is the ruling on performing the night prayer for one who is unable to perform ablution (wudu) or dry ablution (tayammum) by himself and cannot find anyone to help him?

Scholars have differed regarding the prayer of one who lacks both means of purification (water and earth). Some, like the Malikis, said he does not pray. Others, like the Hanafis and Shafi'is, said he prays and then makes up the prayer. Still others, like the Hanbalis, said he prays and does not make up the prayer.

As for supererogatory prayers: The Shafi'is and Hanbalis hold that he does not pray them, whereas Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah chose the view that he does pray supererogatory prayers.
