Is it forbidden for a son to sit in a house where his father is drinking alcohol, knowing that there is a curse upon those who sit with a drinker of alcohol?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to sit with those who commit sins while they are engaged in their sins, based on the Almighty's saying: "And He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah disbelieved in and mocked at, then do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, in that case, you would be like them." (An-Nisa: 140). And based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him not sit at a table where alcohol is served." It is obligatory to continue inviting and advising the father with a good approach and at an appropriate time regarding the impermissibility and harms of alcohol, and to leave the place when he commits the sin if he does not respond, while not abandoning him completely.
