It is not permissible for the wife to travel or visit without her husband's permission, and she must be content with what her husband determines for her. If she disobeys him, she is defiant (nashiz), and her defiance is dealt with through the prescribed legal steps. If she does not reform, the husband is not obligated to divorce her, and he has the choice. If he divorces her, she has the rights of a divorced woman, and he may refrain from divorcing her until she ransoms herself from him. The husband must repent from speaking with non-mahram women, as this is forbidden.
