The answer

Scholars have differed on the ruling of a worshiper reciting from the mus'haf (copy of the Qur’an). The Shafi'is and Hanbalis permitted it, citing as evidence that the best of the Tabi'in (Successors) used to recite from mus'hafs in . Abu Hanifa, however, held that the prayer is absolutely invalidated by it, because it is either excessive action or learning from the mus'haf. The view of permissibility is that which is adopted by the Permanent Committee, Sheikh Al-Uthaymin, and Sheikh Al-Jibreen. The two companions (Abu Yusuf and Muhammad) held it to be disliked if the intention was to imitate the People of the Book. It is preferable for the worshiper to recite from memory, to avoid repetitive actions such as holding and turning the pages of the mus'haf, and because it diminishes the Imam's diligence in memorizing the Qur’an.
