Is merely listening to the Qur’an in Tarawih prayer considered a full recitation (khatmah), or is it a condition to read from the Mus’haf or a phone to achieve a full recitation? And can the Qur’an be recited in full again at home after the Tarawih khatmah, and how would that be?
The worshipper (ma'mum) receives the reward for completing the Holy Qur'an by listening attentively to the imam's recitation during Tarawih prayers. As for reciting anything beyond Al-Fatihah while the imam is reciting, it is unanimously considered impermissible and leads to the detriment of being preoccupied instead of listening. The listener receives a reward similar to that of the reciter. People have unanimously agreed that the verse: "And when the Qur'an is recited, listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy" (Quran 7:204) was revealed concerning prayer. It is authentically narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The imam is appointed to be followed. So when he says 'Allahu Akbar,' then say 'Allahu Akbar,' and when he recites, then listen attentively."
It is permissible to increase the number of Qur'an recitations in Ramadan. The predecessors (Salaf) used to complete the Qur'an every three nights, some every seven, and some every ten. Imam Al-Shafi'i had sixty ختمات (completions) in Ramadan, and Abu Hanifa had a similar number. The Qur'an can be completed by dedicating a daily time to read one juz' (part) or more.
