One must choose a wife who observes the obligatory duties (fara'id) and avoids major sins (kaba'ir). No one is free from minor sins. There are no specific questions to be directed to the fiancée, but it is permissible to ask her questions within the bounds of etiquette and Islamic law, while bearing in mind that she is a stranger (ajnabiyah) until the marriage contract is concluded. She is not permitted to work after marriage except with her husband's permission, unless she stipulates it and the husband agrees. This matter should be clarified before marriage, and if the fiancée insists on working in a mixed environment, it is preferable to turn away from her.
