Was woman created for the worship of God and then to be a source of pleasure for men and a complement to their lives, and is motherhood the only characteristic that distinguishes her from being mere lust?

It is not true that woman was created for a physical or lustful defect. Islam affirms that the primary purpose of creating humankind and jinn, males and females, is righteousness through worship and good morals, and achieving the highest possible human perfection; as corroborated by His (the Almighty's) saying: (Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.") The body is not an end in itself, but a means to ensure the survival of progeny, the development of the earth, and to foster love and mercy. Religious texts do not differentiate between men and women regarding the sublime purposes of creation; both are obligated, and their status in humanity is one. The true criterion in Islam is piety and righteous deeds, not beauty or wealth, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah does not look at your forms nor your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds." From this, it becomes clear that linking femininity to physical desire is a mistaken concept.
