What is the ruling concerning the blood that appeared after 'Umrah and continued for ten days, then stopped and returned, and it was found to be miscarriage blood? And what is the ruling concerning the five days during which she stopped praying after the miscarriage, and is she required to make them up, and how?
That which prevents one from praying is the blood of menstruation (hayd) or post-natal bleeding (nifas). As for miscarriage blood, it is not considered nifas unless the pregnancy has lasted for 81 days or more, because it is at that point that the embryo begins to form. However, if the blood comes out before this period or during the pregnancy, it is considered irregular bleeding (dam fasad) and does not prevent one from fasting or praying. To make up for missed prayers, pray what you can make up in a single day, in order. So you start with the first day, and make up all its prayers, then the second day, and so on. Begin making them up immediately and do not stop except to perform the current obligatory prayers and for necessities.
