Is a government study loan owed by the wife if the condition for repayment (an income of ten thousand pounds) is not met, given that she is a homemaker and does not intend to work? If repayment is obligatory, is the husband religiously obligated to repay this debt, even though there is no text in the loan conditions that obligates him to do so? And is the debt waived for the wife upon her death?

The conditions stipulated by people in their dealings are valid unless the Sharia prohibits them. If the government agrees to postpone the repayment of the loan until the borrower's income reaches ten thousand pounds per month, then this condition is valid and permissible. Therefore, as long as the wife has not worked and has not achieved this income, she is not obligated to repay the loan.

As for the case of death before repaying the loan, the matter reverts to the state's system. If the system stipulates that the loan is waived upon the death of the borrower, then it is waived and his/her liability is cleared. One must refer to the loan conditions to know what is required.

The husband is not liable for his wife's private debts.
