How is one who was born into a family that consumes unlawful earnings treated, and the door of supplication is closed in his face, despite his striving for piety? And does his suffering extend to the Hereafter?

This world is not a criterion for distinguishing between people in the sight of Allah, and absolute justice will be established in the Hereafter. Allah will render rights to their rightful owners and will not neglect the wrongdoers. A servant is only held accountable for what their hands have earned. Therefore, whoever was raised on ill-gotten wealth without any sin on their part bears no guilt, and the one responsible is he who strived to acquire the unlawful money. Some scholars hold the view that unlawful wealth, due to its earning and not its intrinsic nature, is forbidden only for the one who earned it. Despairing of Allah's mercy and abandoning supplication are whisperings from Satan. Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. A Muslim must exert all efforts within their capability in obedience to Allah and ask Allah for His bounty, as despairing of Allah's mercy is among the major sins.
