It has not been established that the Zahiris do not stipulate ablution for the funeral prayer. Rather, Ibn Hazm's words indicate that they stipulate purity for it, like other prayers, and they use the hadith of Ibn Umar as evidence. The view that purity is not stipulated for the funeral prayer, considering it a supplication, was narrated from Al-Sha'bi and Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari. However, Al-Nawawi mentioned that this view is a breach of consensus and should not be given attention.
