The first verse concerning the obligation of fasting included an option between fasting and feeding as a concession and an expansion, then it was abrogated by the second verse which made fasting obligatory for the capable, and this is the view of the majority. There is a consensus on the obligation of fasting for the capable resident who is not menstruating or in postpartum bleeding. The permission for the sick and the traveler was mentioned again in the second verse to clarify the continuation of their concession after the abrogation of the ruling of choice. The arrangement of the Qur'an in the Mushaf (definition) is not according to its revelation. The wisdom behind the retention of the recitation of what has had its ruling abrogated is a reminder of Allah's blessing and the removal of hardship, and because it is the word of Allah, one is rewarded for reciting it, and it is a reminder of Allah's gentleness in legislation and gradualism.
