What is your opinion on those who increase the variety of foods and sweets during Ramadan?
Extravagance is blameworthy and prohibited, especially concerning food and drink, as Allah Almighty says: (And eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.) And as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: (No human fills a vessel worse than his stomach. A few morsels are sufficient for the son of Adam to keep his back straight. But if it is unavoidable, then one-third for his food, one-third for his drink, and one-third for his breath.)
The harms of extravagance are many:
Excessive indulgence in worldly pleasures diminishes a person's share in the Hereafter, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: (Indeed, the people who are most satiated in this world will be the most hungry on the Day of Resurrection.) It distracts a person from acts of obedience, such as reciting the Qur'an. Excessive eating causes laziness, excessive sleep, and wasting time. It leads to heedlessness of the heart.
