What is the Shariah ruling for someone who has been unable to fast for 30 years due to the removal of a large part of their stomach following a duodenal ulcer surgery?

If you are unable to fast due to surgery and do not expect to regain the ability to do so in the future, then Allah has relieved you of the obligation to fast and has obligated you to pay the fidyah (definition) (expiatory feeding), based on His saying: "And upon those who are able to fast [but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] is feeding a poor person." This verse was revealed concerning the elderly man and the elderly woman. By analogy, it applies to the sick person who is unable to fast, an inability from which recovery is not expected. Such individuals should break their fast and feed one poor person for each day. Accordingly, you must pay the fidyah for the past period during which you did not fast, and you should do the same for the future.
