How can the Quran be revealed and uncreated at the same time that the remembrance (dhikr) which comes from the Lord is described as "mysteriously renewed" (muhdath) in the verse: "No fresh reminder comes to them from their Lord but they listen to it while they play"?

The Quran is the word of Allah and is not created. The verse, "No fresh reminder comes to them from their Lord but they listen to it while they are at play" (Al-Anbiya: 2), does not indicate that the Quran is created, but rather that its revelation is new. Commentators have mentioned various interpretations for "Dhikr" (reminder) in the verse:

- That it refers to the Quran, and "muhdath" (fresh/new) means new in its gradual revelation.

- That it refers to a reminder other than the Quran, or what the Prophet reminds them of and admonishes them with.

- That it refers to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, himself.

Imam Ahmad argued that the revelation of the Quran to us is what is new, not the Dhikr itself, and that the Quran is the word of Allah, not created.
