Are video and computer images that appear on a screen permissible, and what is the evidence for that?

Cinematic and television filming transmit moving images. Cinema displays the illusions of things, not their realities. As for television filming, it converts images into electronic signals and electromagnetic waves for display or storage. This includes devices like phones that transmit image and sound, surveillance cameras, and door access systems.

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen views modern photography as two types: 1. That which has no visible or tangible form, such as video cassette recording. This has no ruling and is not subject to prohibition. 2. Still photography on paper. This is subject to the five legal rulings based on intention: it may be forbidden if intended for something unlawful, obligatory if it is to prove a crime or achieve a benefit, desirable for identification purposes, and forbidden if for enjoying the image.
