Practicing forbidden singing is a major sin due to the severe warnings mentioned concerning it. This is indicated by the hadith: "A group of my Ummah will spend the night eating, drinking, and playing, then they will wake up as monkeys and pigs," which mentions the permissibility of alcoholic drinks, playing the tambourine, and acquiring singing girls. It is also indicated by Allah's saying: "Indeed, We revive the dead and record what they have put forth and their traces." The Companions and the Successors interpreted some verses as referring to singing and musical instruments, which are causes for sins. The sayings of the Companions are a reference in interpreting the Quran. Authentic hadiths have been reported equating it with adultery and alcohol, such as the hadith in Al-Bukhari: "There will be people from my Ummah who will consider unlawful sexual intercourse, silk, alcoholic drinks, and musical instruments as lawful."
