Am I sinful for unwillingly hearing music, especially when sitting with my family who constantly listen to it and do not believe in its prohibition?
Singing is the devil's wind instrument that turns one away from the Quran and breeds hypocrisy in the heart. It distracts the heart and prevents it from understanding and acting upon the Quran. The Quran and singing cannot coexist in one heart due to their opposition. Singing commands the opposite of what the Quran commands in terms of chastity and avoidance of carnal desires, and it incites souls towards desires of error. Therefore, it is advised to leave a place where singing is heard if possible, and to denounce this evil gently and kindly. If the family responds, then praise be to Allah. If they do not respond, then you must dislike it in your heart, for Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. You are not sinful for sitting with your father as long as you fulfill the duty of denunciation to the best of your ability.
