What is the ruling on commencing social gatherings, such as weddings, with the Holy Quran, and was this established from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to commence the marriage contract with a sermon that included Quranic verses, intending to remind, encourage, instruct, and warn people. There is no harm in one of those present reciting verses for blessings or to begin with, as long as it does not lead to the belief that its recitation is essential for the validity of the marriage. It is advised not to persistently recite the Quran at occasions, fearing falling into bid'ah (innovations) of addition.
